First grade will finish their unit on China this week. They celebrated by parading through the building with their homemade masks. It was exciting to hear the music and then to see the dancing of first grade students! What a great way to end the first day of the week!

I love how the school rules have put more thought into treating each other kindly. I walked into a second grade classroom as they were discussing how we need to think about our words first. So important! Here are some pictures of their rules and some great work!

Both schools did great with the fire drill yesterday. CTI students practiced their social distancing and made it work! Well done CTE staff and students. You’ll notice that the students are facing the field, that’s to practice safety.

We held our first fire drill for the year at CTP. The students followed directions wonderfully, as expected. It was nice to see that they know what to do to get out of the building quickly and safely. I wish I could add video so you could see the dance moves as Mrs Swilley’s class took their mask break with music after the drill. If you ever see them dancing around the block, you’ll understand why! These students have moves!!

This was supposed to go out yesterday...I just got busy and forgot! I love the lessons being taught in our school. Lessons in how we should treat each other are so important. I remember a book from years and years ago, Everything I Ever Needed to Know, I Learned in Kindergarten. Well, it still holds true today. Here are students in Mrs B’s classroom “practicing” their rules in order to memorize them. You might ask your kindergartener if they can share the rules with you at home.

Here’s a quick thank you and reminder... thank you to everyone who is waiting for your child outside. If you need to pick them up early, please call the school. It’s habit to just walk right in but now we must limit exposure to our students by not coming in unless it’s an emergency situation or something educational for our students. Thank you for your help with this. Today we start serving our remote students lunch and breakfast. We can ONLY serve students enrolled in our school and their siblings with this waiver. Younger siblings will be served. Please call to order for your child by 9:00 each morning. Preschool children are welcomed to take a meal as well. Please contact Miss Jennifer to let her know you would like one to be sent home with your morning student. If you have an afternoon student, please order and plan to pick up after dropping off your child. We will not have meals for anyone not ordering, so please help us out by ordering each day. Pick up is from 12:10-12:40.

Two additional notes for your information moms and dads... Mr. J is requesting that students wear appropriate clothing as well as tennis shoes on the weeks they have PE. Girls in dresses look really cute but many of the activities are are hard to do with a dress on. Free meals... This has been going great! We are very lucky we qualified for this program and appreciate the free meals but it will only be for part of the year. Once the money is gone, we go back to charging. One additional, VERY IMPORTANT note... milk is ONLY provided with a meal. If your child brings their own lunch, the program does NOT cover the cost of a school milk. Your child’s account will pay that .40 charge. I don’t want you to get a surprise on this. We just found this out this week so I wanted to be sure to share. Thanks so much!

Second graders have shared their feelings about their first day of school. These were just too cute not to share. I hope you enjoy them too!

I'm going to try to clear up some confusion about PE shoes. We do not require students to purchase a separate pair of shoes to keep at school. Some schools do, but we do not. We did not want to ask you to purchase a pair of shoes that may never be worn at school. Save that money for another purchase or just buy your child a pair to keep at home and bring when needed. We DO request that, on PE days, your child wear shoes appropriate for running, skipping and moving around in safely. If your child is wearing flip flops/slides/fancy sandles for the majority of their day, please encourage them to pack a pair of tennis shoes JUST for PE that day. Now this creates another potential point of confusion. We have PE one full week and the next week for that classroom will be music. This allows for few transitions in the hallway. Check with your child to see if this is a PE week or Music week (there may be an upcoming change for k-2 students by the end of the month with this schedule). We will keep you posted as to any other changes that do take place. Thanks again for making this different school year such a great and memorable one. We will work through all the new kinks that we encounter as we continually assess the changes we have made. You all are AMAZING!! Thanks for the support and understanding.

The school day is beginning great with such wonderful weather. The students at CTP have figured out the new routine of getting their hands cleaned, temp checked and then heading to their classrooms to get their laundry basket. The afternoon routine is going just as well!

Another great day at school! Our students are certainly thriving in 375! Here are a couple second graders working on different ways to sort. It’s always a lot more challenging when the children must create their own rules for sorting!

First graders enjoying a rousing game of “Swilley Says” for a quick mask break. Some students decided it was too cold to keep their mask down the entire time.

Thanks for the laundry baskets at CTP! They are working out great for our morning gathering. School has been AMAZING! The students are so glad to be back and WE are just as excited! Thanks moms and dads for allowing us the opportunity.

Brrrr!!! What a crazy cold day today! We did make the best of it though. Students were still allowed mask breaks each hour, they just looked a bit different than yesterday’s. Some students found spots in the hallway, others went to the gym. In first grade, the students had a special spot to enjoy their break in.
