Join us wishing Mrs. Terri Turner well on her retirement! Mrs. Turner has been in education for 33 years. She spent 3 years in another district before finding "home" with us at Circle for the next 30 years! During her time in the district, she has been a kindergarten teacher, first-grade teacher, Title 1 teacher, assistant principal, and principal. Ms. Turner plans to relax and take a break from problem-solving all day, spend time with her grandchildren, and travel. She says, "I think that being involved with the education of children to be the most rewarding experience anyone could ever have. Being able to assist in their future is a big job. Knowing that our students at Circle Towanda Elementary are the kindest children is something I will treasure because I had a part in creating that with lots of other people. Our children know how important it is to take care of each other and to do their best at all times. They also know that they may make a mistake here or there but they can overcome that mistake and learn from it. I have been blessed to have been a part of something so incredible for the past 30 years. I will miss everything about our community and family. It has been the most amazing adventure ever." Congratulations on your retirement, Mrs. Turner!
Join us wishing Ms. Beverly Gracey well on her retirement! For the past 25 years, Ms. Gracey has been an at-risk aide/classroom aide. Her retirement plans include traveling and spending time with family. Mrs. Gracey's kindness and generosity will be missed at Circle Benton. Congratulations on your retirement, Ms. Gracey!
Join us wishing Mr. Todd Smith well on his retirement! Mr. Smith has been in education for 40 years--all of those with Circle Schools as a school psychologist. In his retirement, Mr. Smith would like to participate in the Escape from Alcatraz swim race as well as attend concerts and Royals games. Congratulations on your retirement, Mr. Smith!
Join us wishing Mrs. Sara Rhodes well on her retirement! Mrs. Rhodes has been with Circle schools for 21 years. She began her career as a classroom para, then a one-on-one para before transitioning to teach fourth and fifth grade at Benton for 9 years and Greenwich for 11. Mrs. Rhodes has primarily taught Math and Science with four amazing co-teachers. In her retirement, Mrs. Rhodes plans to travel, garden, and volunteer. She and her husband also have four grandchildren--so she hopes to spend lots of time with them. Congratulations on your retirement, Mrs. Rhodes!
Join us wishing Mr. Marty Hays well on his retirement! Mr. Hays has been in education for 39 years--all in USD 375! He spent the first seven years of his career teaching seventh & eighth grade English and Physical Education at Benton Grade school. He then transferred to the high school where he has taught English II, English III, and Creative Writing. Mr. Hays was a 1996 finalist for Kansas Teacher of the Year and won a Jester award for his portrayal of Miko the Flying Monkey in CHS's production of The Wizard of Oz. He is currently a sponsor for the People's Alliance Social Justice Club and was the 2020 winner of the CHS Souper Bowl Challenge award. Mr. Hays says he has absolutely no plans for after retirement, but he's sure something will come along! Congratulations on your retirement, Mr. Hays!
Join us wishing Ms. Patricia Savage well on her retirement! Ms. Savage has been in education for 31 years--6 of those as the Business teacher at CHS. Throughout her career, she has been the concessions manager, Scholars Bowl coach, Student council sponsor, Business Professional of America sponsor, and both middle and high school volleyball and girls basketball coach. Ms. Savage has been a part-time real estate agent for the last 4 years and plans on going into real estate full-time after her retirement from teaching. Congratulations on your retirement, Ms. Savage!

Join us today in wishing Mrs. Deb Harstine well on her retirement! Mrs. Harstine has taught for 37 years, 17 of those with us at Circle. She taught kindergarten in Hiawatha, KS, first grade in Atchison, KS, 2-year-old preschool, and 4-Year-old preschool in Waco, TX. While at Circle she has been a substitute teacher, kindergarten aide, CMS seminar teacher, Title I at Oil Hill, and taught 15 years of kindergarten at Oil Hill! Mrs. Harstine hopes to market and expand her t-shirt quilt making business, spend more time with her parents and grandchildren, and see what doors of opportunity open! Mrs. Hartine says, "It has been a blessing both professionally and personally to have taught in the Circle District." Congratulations on your retirement, Mrs. Harstine!
Help us wish Mrs. Jennifer Duryea well on her upcoming retirement! Mrs. Duryea has also been in education as a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-grade teacher for 36 years--15 of those years here at Circle! She has been the assistant SADD sponsor at CHS and spent several years chaperoning dances and helping with concession stands. Mrs. Duryea has also belonged to CNEA for 15 years, serving as a building rep, vice-president, and president in that time. Mrs. Duryea plans to travel with her husband, enjoy time with family and friends, make memories with her grandchildren, and just relax and eat lunch slowly! Reflecting on her years in the classroom, Mrs. Duryea says, "As I was thinking about retiring, I was thinking about the changes I have seen over the years. In either my 2nd or 3rd year of teaching, the librarian wheeled a cart into my classroom with an Apple computer on it that was probably a 2--3-foot cube. It used a 5-inch floppy disk and had only green print. We had one computer for the whole school! Now all of my students have a Chromebook and are quite adept at using it! I have loved my time in the Circle district at Benton Elementary! So many fun memories - field trips, the music teas, spring fling, performing Christmas skits for the students, and planting in the CBE garden. Awesome students, supportive parents, and wonderful people to work with!" Congratulations on your retirement, Mrs. Duryea!

Special thank you to CHS students for helping teach our kids at CGE about starting healthy tech habits and balancing technology in daily life. Some topics they covered: Screen time helps performance in school. How to check for screen time and monitor notifications and distractions Putting phone upstairs to charge, or give to parents before bed Getting homework done first and putting phone up at dinner time-- try reading or playing outside, a game or extra curricular sports It is the kids responsibility, not just the parent- be responsible and proactive Designate phone free days, or nights when the whole family puts them away from this time to this time Homework before video games- and t Dangers of phone use: texting leads to no spelling, it can be addicting and leads to unrealistic expectations for themselves and others, too much social media High School kids involved: 4th grade: James-Cash Erikson, Noel Hawkins, & Solomon Bowen 5th grade: Delaney Parr, Devin Ingrim, and Boston Craig 6th grade: Katie Webb, and possibly Emma Willour
