Mr. Carroll, 2026 Region 3 Principal of the Year

Circle Public Schools is proud to share that Circle High School Principal Mr. Matthew Carroll has been named the 2026 Kansas Principals Association Area 3 High School Principal of the Year. This recognition highlights a career built on relationships, a commitment to students, and a school culture shaped by connection and purpose.

Mr. Carroll brings nearly three decades of experience in education to his role. He began his career teaching at Truesdell Middle School from 1997–2001 before serving as an assistant principal at East High School for 10 years. He joined Circle High School in 2011 and has served as an assistant principal, athletic director, and principal during his 16 years in the district.

Along the way, his leadership has been shaped by those who modeled what it means to lead well. He credits former East High principal Mr. Thiessen as a key influence. “He taught me the importance of building relationships across all aspects of the school,” Carroll shared. “He nurtured individual personal and professional relationships with a kind presence.” That example of steady, relational leadership continues to guide his work today.

At Circle High School, that approach is easy to see. Mr. Carroll is known for his presence in the hallways, connecting with students during passing periods and building relationships that support both learning and belonging. It’s a reflection of what matters most to him.

“I am inspired by the love of learning and the growth I get to witness from my students,” Carroll said. “I thoroughly enjoy being directly involved in the four-year journey of each CHS student.”

Those daily interactions extend beyond students. “The relationships I cultivate on a regular daily basis with teachers and staff bring meaning to my life and satisfaction that the work I do is important,” he added.

That sense of shared purpose is felt throughout the building. “I want our community to know how awesome and progressive CHS is,” Carroll said. “Our students and staff in partnership with each other have built a school that is welcoming, challenging, loving and committed to the mission of education.”

District leaders shared that this distinction reflects both Mr. Carroll’s leadership and the collective work happening at Circle High School.

“Mr. Carroll works very hard to ensure staff and students are given the best opportunities to be successful,” said Superintendent Don Potter. “He truly cares about all students, staff and stakeholders at Circle High School and our district. His leadership style, along with his caring, competent and committed approach, is a great combination for success.”

Assistant Superintendent Tony Holguin added, “This speaks to the work happening at Circle High School and the commitment to serving students each day. Recognition at this level is a reflection of the collective work happening in the building.”

Through his consistent presence, commitment to students, and focus on building a strong school community, Mr. Carroll continues to make a meaningful impact at Circle High School. Congratulations, Mr. Carroll, and & thank you for helping us Thrive in 375 💙💛
