Community Relations & Development

Connection. Celebration. Thunderbird Pride.

Through authentic communication, strong community partnerships, and shared sense of Thunderbird pride, Community Relations & Development connects, celebrates, and cultivates an environment where every Thunderbird can thrive.

Communication & Marketing

Community Relations & Development connects schools, families, and the community through clear communication, authentic storytelling, and strategic marketing. This work includes managing ParentSquare, district messaging, the Thunderbird visual identity, creating district publications, aiding recruitment efforts, and providing staff with resources that strengthen Thunderbird pride.

Weather & Emergency Closures

When weather or other emergencies affect the school day, we promise to communicate as quickly as possible to help families plan and find reassurance in stressful or high-emotion situations. However, our top priority is the safety of every Thunderbird. Once student and staff safety has been secured, official communication will be sent to all parents and guardians through ParentSquare and, when appropriate, shared with local news outlets. We will not post information on any social media platform.

While updates may take a little longer to send, our focus is on communicating with accuracy, efficiency, and care so families can trust the information they receive.

Emergency Closures

We use ParentSquare to share important updates about school closings and emergencies. Depending on your notification settings, you may receive alerts through the app, by email, or via text message.

ParentSquare uses contact information from PowerSchool. It’s important to keep your address, phone numbers, and other contact details up to date to ensure you don’t miss critical messages.

In emergency situations official communication will not arrive via social media.

When a tornado or other severe weather is threatening, students will not be dismissed until the all clear is issued by emergency management or a district office administrator.

Weather Closures

When there is an emergency or weather-related closing in the school district, announcements via ParentSquare will be made as soon as possible. Information about school cancellations may be found on the district website, and on the following radio and television stations:
