CMS Weekly Update: October 29th through November 4th

Weekly Update for October 29th through November 4th.

Welll.... If you weren't ready for fall... I mean Winter.... IT"S HERE!!! Remind your students that shorts may not be the best clothing choice... (I'm preaching to the choir here... UMMMM my own child... )

OK- LOTS of information here so grab a cup of hot chocolate and enjoy!!!

Thursday is Halloween and we do allow students to wear a costume: Here are the specifics: *Dress Code as written in the handbook will be followed for all costumes. * No masks or weapons (replicas) are allowed * Keep it clean- no bloody gore or risque elements to the costumes * Students can bring $1.00 to the office and we will mark off that they have paid to wear their costume. The money will go toward STUCO funds. Let us know if you have questions. cmsfrontdesk@usd375.org

Took a moment today to visit with our 8th grade class about the power of "SEEing" someone and having a P.M.A. - Also known as a Positive Mental Attitude. As shared in the previous posts- we are surrounded by diversity and amazing cultural opportunities. The students were challenged today with the word SEE- what does it truly mean to SEE someone. To be excited to hear another persons story from their perspective. When you truly take the time to SEE another person, you take time to build a connection with them. The stage has been set that the expectations for CMS will be to put into action Rachel's Challenges. Here is a quote from one of her final essay's written for her English class: “Until you know them, and not just their type, you have no right to shun them. You have not looked for their beauty, their good.' Here is the Personal Connection for all of us at CMS: Sometimes we judge people by the way the look, how they act , or the things they say…. How can you react in a PMA way? 7th Grade will have a very similar discussion next Monday.

Thank you for attending our fall conferences- we have some time struggles to work out as this was the first year that there is not a buffer between the first season of sports to the next. This will be taken into consideration for next fall's time schedule. We hope you were able to visit with the teachers you needed to see and your student was able to share their small part of the conference with you as well. Spring conferences will all be scheduled and students will have a much larger responsibility coming.

We are excited to share with you a re-vamping of our CMS dances- We have changed the name to CMS Socials with much more to do than just a dance. We will still have the dance as an option, but will also have games, crafts, open gym, and a variety of other options. We also moved the time frame up from an evening activity to right after school. This way students that normally would not be able to attend might be. Our first CMS social is Friday, November 8th. starting at 3:30 - 5:30. Students will be transported back to their base elementary schools following the Social. If you would like to volunteer to help, please contact Suzanne Cross at scross@usd375.org. We will put you to work.
