Student Council

What is it?

Student council is an elected group of students who are good role models and represent their classmates in helping the school be the best it can be.

Purpose:

The purpose of student council is to strive for good citizenship by respecting all individuals in school and community, to help students work together for our school, and to have an opportunity to experience democracy in action.

Election Process:

Students in 4th through 6th grade will have an opportunity to run for office.  Students may nominate themselves for office.  To run for office you must:  1) Have grades of all C’s or better; 2) Be a good citizen of the school and community; 3) Have attended TGS at least one semester.

Once nominations have been received you may put an 8”x11” campaign poster in your classroom.  Sixth graders running for the offices of Pres, Vice Pres, Secretary or Treasurer may put campaign posters in the 6th Gr. hallway.   On election day nominees will be required to make a speech to the voting population.  Once speeches are presented, each class will vote for two representatives. (6th grade will also vote for the offices of Pres. Vice Pres, Secretary and Treasurer).  The students receiving the two highest number of votes shall act as representatives for their class for the year.  The student receiving the third highest number of votes will be the alternate in the event that a representative can’t complete his or her term.
