ONLINE SEARCHING HELP

There are many search engines on the internet.  Guess what?!! Each one was developed by a different company that also developed different search strategies.

For example:

Google wants you to use quotation marks around a phrase, like
“2003 World Series”

Vivisimo allows to do a Boolean search using and, or, or not.  For example:
“OR” finds documents containing at least one of the specified words or phrases.  Video OR disc finds documents containing either video or disc. The documents returned can contain both words, but not necessarily.

“AND NOT” excludes documents containing the specified word or phrase. Video AND NOT disc finds documents with video but not containing disc.

On the homepage of each search engine, look for SEARCH HELP or ADVANCED SEARCH to determine what strategies you need to know for searching for your topic.

Reminder: each search engine selects what web sites they will connect to.  Try several different search engines and you are likely to find different web sites on each search engine.
